On this summer solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere of our spinning orb, the Sun appears to stand still before reversing its direction, a phenomenon known as declination.
And so, too, am I in declination; as I bend away from the most difficult area of weaving, I am tilting on my own axis, my life orbiting around my loom in a feeble attempt to do well in this monumental task I have undertaken. To weave a beautiful being, a creature of flesh & feathers that glides effortlessly in the sun in its own struggle to survive the odds.
Say hello to my little friend…
Condor 27

Thank you, thank you, everyone for bolstering my motivation with your enthusiasm, kind words, & beautiful thoughts... my condor & I will be winging & weaving our way to a fall landing in the Grand Canyon!

What an amazing bird and what an amazing undertaking - a life size rendition! And now she can look back at you and encourage you towards the finish. Wonderful.

When the Himalayan craftsmen scultp metal statutes of the Buddha, the moment when the eye is painted is referred to as 'Awakening the Buddha" -- giving the cold metal life. Ah, what a milestone, well achieved. It is like passing the top of a hill on a long journey. From here all else will seem downhill, even if it does not seem to go any faster.

What a thrill it must have been to weave the last bit of her eye and see her looking back at you, infinitely patient and with all the wisdom of the universe.

Your little friend will loom large over many many visitors for years to come. She will spark questions from children who might one day save their own condor. Beautiful project. It will be worth the work.
