recuerda el olor del sol en mis caléndulas
vuelve a mí para un última beso
prueba el sabor picante de la vida en una toma más de tequila
antes de ser tragado a la noche

remember the scent of sunshine in my marigolds
return to me for one last kiss
taste the sharp tang of life in one more shot of tequila
before you are swallowed into the night

Día de los Muertos altars honor and celebrate the life of family and friends who have left this world for the next. Placed in homes and public spaces, these altars are laden with offerings—favorite foods, drinks, personal mementos—and are heavily garnished with cempasúchil, the flower of the dead, also known as marigolds. The vibrant color and pungent scent of the blooms guide loved ones back to the world of the living on this magical night. The fragility of life is reflected in the ephemeral nature of las flores de muertos.
