cotton, hemp, linen, rayon, silk, synthetics, wool
36” x 28.5”
You think I’m bent on destroying your manmade home. But you’ve got it all wrong… I’m a builder, not a destroyer. It’s just a tattoo you hear me beating on your abode, an announcement to proclaim, “I am here, el pájaro carpintero, builder of spiny saguaro apartments and illustrious landlord of the Sonoran desert!” The tenants are many and varied—sparrow, finch, owl, falcon, reptile, to name a few—but I don’t collect rent from them. Rewards come from juicy insects I pluck from pleats and from inside lavish, luscious pollen stuffed waxy white blooms, from savoring succulent scarlet fruits that burst open to cerulean skies, from the clattering broods I raise in my casa espinosa. My scalloped flight takes me from project to project, sowing the seeds of giants as I fly.
